Hyatt has announced an accelerated expansion plan with four new properties set to open across Portugal by 2027. This strategic move reinforces the group’s commitment to growth in Southern Europe amid rising investor interest and sustained demand for lifestyle-driven, upper-upscale hospitality.
Hyatt Hotels Corporation is preparing a new phase of expansion in Portugal, aiming to triple its number of hotels in the country. The pipeline includes upcoming properties in Lisbon under the Andaz and The Standard brands, along with new Hyatt Regency hotels in Vilamoura and on the island of Sal. This approach is consistent with the broader development roadmap the group has been pursuing across EMEA.
Lisbon remains a central focus for the company’s lifestyle offering. Hyatt has already strengthened this segment in France with multiple openings, and in Germany through recent projects in Hamburg. Portugal is now positioned as the next key area of development in Southern Europe.
Lisbon as a Lifestyle Anchor
Andaz Lisbon
Set to open early 2026, Andaz Lisbon will mark the brand’s debut in Portugal with 170 rooms and suites. The hotel will draw upon Lisbon’s creative identity, combining contemporary craftsmanship and local artistic expression. Its rooftop restaurant Luzzi will reinterpret Portuguese cuisine with a modern perspective, while the Andaz Lounge will offer street-food inspirations, craft cocktails and Portuguese microbrews. Dedicated wellness spaces will support an experience centred on immersion and relaxation.

The Standard, Lisbon
Expected in 2026, The Standard, Lisbon will transform the Palácio Santa Clara into a 197-room property overlooking Alfama. Conceived as a cultural and social venue, the hotel will feature a rooftop terrace, spa and landscaped gardens designed as experience-led environments. Under the direction of Verena Haller and Jaime Hayon, the project will combine heritage and contemporary design, integrating itself into Lisbon’s expanding lifestyle landscape.
Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve
Located near Vilamoura’s marina and golf courses, Hyatt Regency Vilamoura Algarve will introduce over 250 rooms and suites. The development aims to capture leisure, wellness and sports-related demand, supported by outdoor spaces and refreshed dining concepts reflecting the Hyatt Regency brand.

Hyatt Regency Cape Verde Sal
On the island of Sal, Hyatt Regency Cape Verde Sal will become Hyatt’s first hotel in the archipelago. Designed for both business and leisure travellers, the property will mark a step forward in the group’s expansion across Lusophone destinations.
With more than 600 rooms expected to enter the market through these four openings, Hyatt is reinforcing its presence across key Portuguese and Lusophone destinations. The combination of lifestyle brands in Lisbon and leisure-focused developments in Vilamoura and Cape Verde broadens the group’s operational reach and aligns with shifting demand patterns in Southern Europe. This expansion supports the diversification of the regional hotel offer and strengthens Portugal’s position as an increasingly attractive market for international operators and investors.
