A$AP Rocky is the latest Chanel ambassador, bringing his “talent, curiosity, and limitless creativity” to the luxury brand’s latest chapter.
A surreal three-minute video released on Sunday showed rapper A$AP Rocky and actress Margaret Qualley as a couple waking up together before he sprints after her across Manhattan to propose. Directed by French filmmaker Michel Gondry, the clip is actually the launching point for luxury brand Chanel’s latest chapter, with the rapper as its newest ambassador.
The fashion house confirmed the news over the weekend, naming A$AP Rocky’s “talent, curiosity, and limitless creativity” as qualities that make him a perfect fit for Chanel.
“Rocky is an incredible artist who puts his heart and soul into every project he’s involved in, in addition to being an incredible human being,” artistic director Matthieu Blazy said in a statement. “Musician, actor, father, friend… he brings so much to the table and always delivers with kindness. We are thrilled to welcome him to Chanel, and I’m thrilled to work together again.”
“Matthieu’s imagination is pushing fashion forward,” added Rocky. “His designs feel both sensitive and strong; they’re grounded in reality, but at the same time, always invite one to wonder. I’m so excited to see him at Chanel.”
Speculation sparked in late October, when Rocky was spotted filming alongside Qualley on the streets of New York City. Qualley is married to music producer and Bleachers frontman Jack Antonoff, who is also known for his work with Taylor Swift.
It’s been a big year for A$AP Rocky. The rapper recently welcomed his third child with partner Rihanna, and he also starred in two films: If I Had Legs I’d Kick You, and Spike Lee’s Highest 2 Lowest.
In October, Rocky was also named the CFDA’s 2025 Fashion Icon. CFDA Chairman Thom Browne said the rapper is a “fashion icon in the purest form. He is one of a kind [and] his truly original approach to fashion inspires me, and so many, to think differently.”
Rocky told The New York Times that he “would never want to be a fashion designer,” but that clothes are one of his passions. That much is evident any time he and Rihanna make a grand entrance, but the couple also frequently joke about their love of fashion and tendency to steal from one another’s wardrobe.
