A jury of German and international automotive journalists chose the BMW 5 Series as the German Car of the Year 2025. The business sedan asserted itself against numerous competitors.
The overall winner was selected from five winners in the class: Citroën C3 (up to 35,000 euros), BMW 5 Series (up to 70,000 euros), Cadillac Lyriq (more than 70,000 euros), Audi Q6 e-tron (“Vehicles of new energy”), and Porsche 911 GTS T-Hybrid (sports models). The jury selected the class winners from among all vehicles introduced to the German market from 2023/24. year.
The “German Car of the Year” (GCOTY) award was awarded for the seventh time this year. Jaguar I-Pace won GCOTY 2019, Porsche Taycan was GCOTY 2020, Honda e was GCOTY 2021, Hyundai Ioniq 5 was chosen for 2022, Volkswagen ID was chosen for 2023. Buzz, and last year it beat the Volkswagen ID.7 so that the BMW 5 Series became the first non-electric GCOTY.
The trophy was received at BMW Welt by Jochen Goller, a member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for customers, brands and sales. Goller commented on the result: “The selection of the new BMW 5 Series as the German Car of the Year once again confirms the success of our customer-oriented product strategy. We offer the new BMW 5 Series as a fully electric model, with plug-in hybrid drive and highly efficient internal combustion engines so it can respond flexibly to the changing wishes of our customers.”
The jury for the “German Car of the Year” consists of more than 30 automotive journalists active in German-speaking countries. In addition, around 10 international guest jury members voted.
