Update []:
The update for Capcom Fighting Collection 2 which adds four new characters to Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper is available now.
To play as – or against – Eagle, Maki, Yun, or Ingrid you’ll need to enable them in the Game Settings before you boot the ROM. Once you’ve selected the option, you’ll see them on the character select screen.

This is a mind blowing update, because previously these four characters were only available in the PSP game Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max.
As the Capcom Fighting Collection 2 version is based on the arcade ROM, technically Capcom has hacked them in, which is unexpected.
The new update also includes some fresh artwork and music, as well as improvements to Plasma Sword’s training mode. Will you be checking it out?
Original Story: Big news for fans of the absolutely exceptional fighting game compilation, Capcom Fighting Collection 2: the game’s getting a free update on 7th August, patching the four previously PSP exclusive characters into Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper.
So for those of you who don’t know, Street Fighter Alpha 3 was ported to the GBA in 2002 by Crawfish Interactive, who added the characters Eagle, Maki, and Yun to the game.
Those three were then included in the absolutely outstanding arcade perfect PSP version Street Fighter Alpha 3 Max, alongside Ingrid, who’d previously only been available in the derided Capcom Fighting Evolution on PS2.
Now all four characters will be added to Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper in Capcom Fighting Collection 2, effectively making this the definitive version of the game. Ingrid will, of course, be added to Street Fighter 6 as DLC next year, so it makes sense to give fans a way to get to grips with her in a quality game.
In addition to the four characters, some new gameplay modes will also be added: Normal, Mazi, Saikyo, and Classic. As far as we understand, Mazi increases damage output, Saikyo decreases damage output, and Classic strips away many of the more modern mechanics, like Supers et al.
In addition to all of this, you’ll find new artwork, remixed music from Capcom’s god-tier sound team, and an update to Plasma Sword which will allow you to better explore each character’s combo strings in training mode.
Just to reiterate, all of this is free.
It goes without saying that we highly recommend this game, as we awarded it a 9/10 in our Capcom Fighting Collection 2 PS4 review.
“While its commitment to arcade conversions means you’re missing some of the single player modes from the various included titles’ home console ports, there’s simply so much quality content on offer here that it’s hard to complain, with the likes of Capcom vs. SNK 2 and Street Fighter Alpha 3 Upper having legitimate claims at being some of the greatest fighters ever made,” we wrote.
