Grab some tissues for this incredibly heartfelt tribute to Lee Corso

Lee Corso will end his decorated career in college football with one final edition of College GameDay to open up the 2025 season. If you think it’s going to be emotional, you’re definitely right.

Corso became synonymous with college football while working for ESPN for more than 38 years, but his story in the sport began much earlier than that. He was teammates with Burt Reynolds at Florida State in the 50s. Once his playing days were over, he spent time on the sidelines, most notably coaching at Louisville and Indiana. The Hoosiers gave him an outstanding welcome home when College GameDay traveled to Bloomington in 2024.

Even though we didn’t know it then, that tribute served as the first of many for Lee Corso. This spring, he announced that he had one more in him. Ahead of his final sign-off, he was celebrated on stage at the ESPYS. ESPN also produced an hour-long documentary, “Not So Fast, My Friend.” It aired on Friday night and can be seen on replay via the new ESPN app.

During the special, Corso took a stroll through the College Football Hall of Fame with Kirk Herbstreit. That’s where they surprised him with messages from former players, colleagues, athletes, and even Will Ferrell. Those aren’t the emotional ones that will make you get teary-eyed during this magnificent presentation.

Lee Corso will make his final headgear selection next Saturday, where he made his first, in Columbus, Ohio. The Buckeyes will host No. 1 Texas at the Horseshoe. It will surely be an emotional three-hour ride when College GameDay kicks off at 9 AM ET on ESPN.
