Be a barista and a bartender at the same time this Valentine’s Day with this adorable chocolate garnish.

Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, and that means it’s time to finalize your menu. If you’re making a romantic dinner at home and baking special Valentine’s desserts, it only makes sense to add a celebratory cocktail to the mix!

When we saw this video by @thesnowyblonde_ on Instagram, it was love at first sight. We fell head over heels for the idea of an espresso heart-tini (aka, an espresso martini with hearts!). Using our classic espresso martini recipe and canned cold foam, this recipe whips up fast and will make for the most impressive Valentine’s Day or Galentine’s Day drink.

How to Make an Espresso Martini with Hearts

Gather a cocktail shaker and espresso martini ingredients, and get ready to do some simple toothpick art.

Step 1: Make the espresso martini

Combine the ingredients from the recipe linked above (vodka, espresso, coffee liqueur and simple syrup) in a shaker over ice. Shake vigorously until the outside of the cocktail shaker is cool to the touch, then strain it into a coupe or martini glass. Typically, you’d stop here and top the martini with three espresso beans, but for this recipe, we’re amping it up a notch.

Step 2: Top with cold foam

To add extra oomph and body to the espresso martini, top it with cold foam. Keep things easy with a store-bought brand, or make your own by frothing cold milk with a hand-held frother.

Step 3: Dot with chocolate syrup

Now for the fun part: Use a small spoon to carefully place dots of chocolate syrup in a spiral pattern on top of the foam. Then, use a toothpick to make the heart pattern by pulling it through the center of each dot. You should be able to follow the same spiral pattern to create all of the hearts at once, which will make it cleaner. Finally, top the martini with three espresso beans as tradition dictates. Cheers!
