Despite being one of the most famous faces in K-pop—and pop music in general—Rosé proves in Vogue’s latest edition of Life in Looks that, despite her superstardom, at the end of the day she’s a regular 27-year-old. Not only does the singer get starstruck when meeting celebrities like Rihanna (or “the queen,” as Rosé describes her), but she’s also looking for her friends, like Charlotte Lawrence, at big Hollywood parties to avoid awkwardly standing in the corner.
Before Rosé became Rosé, she was a preteen in Australia, roaming grocery store magazine aisles and fawning over the latest issues of Vogue. In 2021, when she appeared on the cover of Vogue Australia’s April issue, it was a mind-altering moment for the singer. “This was the first Vogue cover I did for Australia,” she explains. “It was a big deal for me because I grew up there, and to have myself be on the cover of Vogue Australia, it meant a lot to me.” Her first-ever Met Gala was another memorable moment: While in line waiting to be filmed for Vogue.com, Rosé got a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Rihanna posing for Instagram content. Noticing Rosé’s excitement, a security guard asked if she was a fan and would like an introduction. “I went, ‘Not at all!’ Rosé recalls, but as Rihanna walked by, the security guard stopped her to ask if she knew of Blackpink and Rosé. “She then turns around and grasps my hand, and gives me the biggest hug. I remember being sad washing my hands.”
Her Vogue career doesn’t end there. The following year, filmmaker and fellow Australian Baz Luhrmann called her up to star in his digital cover for Vogue Australia’s June 2022 issue. “Baz Luhrmann was a director I’ve admired for years. I remember when I was a [K-pop] trainee, I loved Moulin Rouge,” Rosé exclaims. “For me, even becoming a singer and a trainee, that movie had a lot to do with it.”
Her storied profession as a member of Blackpink did not only bring Vogue highlights, but many other major moments too. The group has performed at Coachella twice (the second time as headliners), and the foursome even got invited to the State Banquet at Buckingham Palace in 2023. “I remember we laughed so much in the car to the palace and went, ‘This is crazy!’” Rosé explains. “This is one of my favorite moments of Blackpink.” For those wondering if the members have a group chat to keep in touch while they’re currently pursuing their solo careers, they do—and Rosé’s role is to provide funny reactions to all of the other member’s messages.
