On Tuesday, Jonathan Andic, the eldest son of the late founder of global Spanish fashion brand Mango, was arrested by the Mossos d’Esquadra—the police force of Spain’s Catalonia region—in connection to the death of his father, Isak Andic. Prior to his arrest, Jonathan Andic, who currently serves as the vice chairman of Mango’s board, had been under investigation for months in the case which was initially assumed to be nothing more than an accident. The investigation into Isak Andic’s death has also focused on the relationships between Isak Andic’s children and heirs and Andic’s partner, the golfer Estefania Knuth, as well as on the management of the company. Here’s timeline of the case so far:
December 14, 2024
Isak Andic died at the age of 71 when he fell to his death in the Collbató caves in Barcelona’s Montserrat mountain while on a hike with Jonathan. Jonathan called the emergency services, who certified Isak’s death. The Mossos d’Esquadra took Jonathan’s statement two days later, on the 16th, and treated the case as an accident.
At that time, Jonathan was responsible for Mango Man, the men’s line he had created more than 15 years earlier. He had even become co-manager of the group in 2014, but subsequent poor results—despite record turnover—led Isak to take back the reins.
January 16, 2025
The Court of Instruction number 5 of Martorell, Spain outside Barcelona, decides the provisional dismissal of the case, based on the initial report of the Mossos, and the lack of criminal indications.
March 2025
The provisional dismissal did not mean the end of the proceedings. Jonathan was interrogated again at the end of January, and Isak’s cell phone had been recovered and inspected by the Mossos. The same court reopened the case to continue the investigations and to cover those already carried out. The accident hypothesis continues to predominate. No one is officially under investigation.
July 2025
Isak Andic’s three children, Jonathan, Judith and Sarah, officially inherit the holding companies that manage most of the Mango group and Isak’s real estate assets (with assets valued at more than 1.2 billion euros). The patriarch’s fortune was estimated at around 4.5 billion euros.
September 2025
Jonathan and his wife, Paula Nata, become parents for the first time. (They had married privately a year earlier, and Isak’s death caused them to postpone the wedding party.) The Mossos accost Jonathan in the street to demand his cell phone. At the end of that month, the court determines a change in Jonathan’s status: from witness to suspect for the death of his father. For the first time, homicide is officially considered by the investigation, which still maintains the secrecy of summary proceedings.
