The Lagos State Government has reaffirms its commitment to tourism promotion as it marked the one-year anniversary of the London to Lagos groundbreaking solo road trip embarked upon by Pelumi Nubi, a travel content creator and Tourism Ambassador.
It will be recalled that the UK-based Nigerian travel content creator embarked on her cross-country solo trip in a Peugeot 107 Hatchback on January 30th 2024.
Pelumi finally arrived in Lagos on April 7 2024 to a heroic welcome, completing an epic 68-day solo road trip from London, United Kingdom, to Lagos, Nigeria.
Speaking on the milestone achievement during the commemoration of the one-year anniversary held last week, the Special Adviser to the State Governor on Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Idris Aregbe said :
“This celebration is not just about Pelumi’s remarkable journey…it is a testament to the visionary leadership of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, who continues to invest in young people and creative industries.”
“Pelumi’s journey is a symbol of inspiration, especially for the next generation. Lagos is not just a city but also a cultural centre for youth development, mentorship growth. Through initiatives like this, we are reminded that we all share in the dream of making Lagos a beacon of creativity, excellence, and unity,” he added.
The Permanent Secretary of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture, Mr. Olanrewaju Bajulaiye, also commended Pelumi’s courage and visionary determination, saying :
“Pelumi Nubi has become a powerful ambassador for Nigerian resilience and ingenuity. Her story challenges outdated perceptions and shows the world a new face of African excellence. Through her journey, she has demonstrated that young Nigerians can lead global conversations about tourism, culture, and innovation.”
The commemoration of the one-year anniversary also featured the launch of Pelumi’s debut book, a compelling memoir chronicling her 68-day journey across Europe and West Africa.
Pelumi Nubi, who gained international acclaim for her solo journey, expressed deep gratitude for the overwhelming support she received from the Lagos State Government and the residents.
“I didn’t expect the welcome I got,” she said, adding that “Lagos embraced me with so much love. That moment showed me that we are truly a hub of excellence and creativity. It’s a message I want the world to see, and that we are capable and our stories matter.”
