Met Gala 2025: Usher, Stevie Wonder Surprise Performances

Inside Met Gala 2025: Every Major Celebrity Moment You Missed

You don’t have to call Usher to get the 2025 Met Gala jumping.

The Grammy-winning singer was a surprise performer at the annual fashion fundraiser in New York City May 5, where, according to videos from inside the gala, he delivered electrifying renditions of his hits including “Yeah!,” “U Don’t Have to Call” and “OMG.”

After arriving alongside his wife Jennifer Goicoechea in a classic three-piece suit with a large black bowtie and white scarf, the 46-year-old hit the stage in not one, but two Willy Chavarria suits—one in red and one in white—for the heavily-choreographed set, where he was flanked by an entourage of equally stylish backup dancers.

Later in the evening, Stevie Wonder delivered his own performance as he serenaded the attendees with classics such as “Sir Duke,” “Signed, Sealed, Delivered (I’m Yours)” and “Isn’t She Lovely.” To close out his set, the music legend—dressed in a custom ensemble by anOnlyChild— invited Usher back onstage for a duet of his 1976 hit “Another Star.”

Earlier in the evening, Stevie, 71, made his Met Gala debut on the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, lighting up the red carpet in a black embroidered Sergio Hudson suit with a sparkling black cape in honor of the event’s “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” theme.

“I’m just here,” he told E!’s Zuri Hall, “very happy to celebrate Black designers and their ability to create consistently—since the beginning of time—style.”

And as he gears up to travel to London for a string of concerts, Stevie pointed out the importance of music as a way to connect with others.

“We definitely need the light—a lot of truth—and what has always kept us going throughout history is song,” he continued. “So I’m very happy to celebrate that with everyone.”
