He began his journey at Meta as a controls subject matter expert before advancing to program manager and later senior program manager roles. Prior to his time at Meta, Mr. Shafik honed his skills as an automation engineer II at Schneider Electric from 2015 to 2017. His responsibilities here included developing advanced control systems, which laid the foundation for his subsequent achievements in the industry. Earlier in his career, he served as lead systems engineer and business partner at Building System Solutions LLC. While there, his collaboration with partners on a project for the Omaha Public Power District led them to sponsor his visa and green card, allowing him to become a full-time partner. He was recognized as the best employee of the company for three consecutive years. Later, Building System Solutions LLC. was acquired by Parallel Technologies.

Mr. Shafik’s academic background includes a Master of Science in architectural engineering with a focus on controls and energy management from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, completed in 2010. He also holds a Bachelor of Science in mechanical engineering with a specialization in mechatronics, robotics and automation engineering from Assiut University, earned in 2005. His education has been complemented by numerous certifications, including multiple product management certificates from Product School in 2023 and several programming certifications from Schneider Electric, Honeywell and Tridium.

Mr. Shafik has also contributed to his industry through written works. He has authored “Performance of a Coupled Cooling System with Earth-to-Air Heat Exchanger and Solar Chimney,” published by Renewable Energy, and “A Comparison of Passive Solar and Mechanically Driven Earth-to-Air Heat Exchangers for Cooling Buildings,” seen in the World Renewable Energy Forum, among several others.

In addition to his professional endeavors, Mr. Shafik is actively involved in industry-related organizations, such as the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics and the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers. He is also committed to civic engagement through contributions to charity organizations like Agape and support for Austin Stone Community Church.

Raised by deaf and mute parents, Mr. Shafik attributes much of his success and character to his upbringing. Early on, he learned two key lessons: that every individual is unique and deserves opportunities — having seen how others misunderstood his parents capabilities — and that no challenge is insurmountable. His father’s intelligence and unwavering belief in him inspired Mr. Shafik to recognize his own potential and pursue success. Though he knows challenges remain, he is confident his father is proud of his achievements. Growing up as a minority of a minority was also difficult, but it helped build his resilience.

A large portion of Mr. Shafik’s personal life is spent mentoring college students to help them excel in their careers. He aims to inspire them by sharing his experiences and challenges, believing that anyone can achieve their goals with perseverance and dedication. His other personal interests include kayaking, hiking in the Rocky mountains and the Alps between Germany and Austria and spending quality time with his small family (wife and daughter).

Mr. Shafik’s commitment to honesty, dedication and continuous learning drives him toward success, as he believes that transparency, both to himself and others, faith in God and a having a higher purpose have been crucial to his achievements.
