MusicBird has acquired the publishing catalog of Majid Jordan, including an interest in works recorded by Drake and others.

The Swiss song-rights investor (which is technically headquartered in London) reached out with word of its latest IP play today. According to MusicBird, the package-deal purchase extends to both the writer’s and publisher’s shares of Toronto-based Majid Jordan, itself consisting of the namesake Majid Al-Maskati and Jordan Ullman.

At the top level, the OVO Sound-signed duo has released four studio albums (plus an EP) since forming in 2011, including tracks such as “Her” (88.4 million Spotify streams), “Waiting for You” (23.2 million), “A Place Like This” (32.5 million), and “Waves of Blue” (55.7 million).

And when it comes to the aforementioned works popularized by Drake, Majid Jordan’s members have written “Hold On, We’re Going Home” as well as DJ Khaled’s “For Free” (which features Drake and seemingly credits Ullman but not Al-Maskati), to name a couple.

Addressing the investment, MusicBird CEO Paul Brown noted the catalog’s existing cross-genre success and anticipated ability to secure new fans yet in the long run.

“With proven, long-term success across genres underpinned by dedicated fanbases,” Brown said, “Majid Jordan’s catalogue aligns with MusicBird’s strategy as we continue to build a diverse, hit-driven collection of music rights.

“With Jordan and Majid producing chart hits with some of the world’s biggest names and having a huge influence on modern R&B and pop music, their catalogue adds further pedigree, commercial success, and diversity to our growing portfolio. Their music also has plenty of potential to find new fans, providing a significant opportunity to grow the value of these songs in the coming years,” he concluded.

All told, that growing portfolio now encompasses stakes in over 2,000 songs, according to MusicBird, which scored a deal with London Bridge Studios co-founder Rick Parashar in October 2025.

As for the bigger catalog picture, six weeks into 2026, the decidedly capital-heavy sub-sector isn’t showing any signs of cooling. This refers, in the first place, to the continued presence of blockbuster plays involving Miranda Lambert, Britney Spears, and entire labels.

Meanwhile, besides bringing huge acquisition announcements, the year’s also delivering on the volume front. The likes of Cutting Edge, Primary Wave, Sony Music, Bella Figura, ICM Crescendo, and now MusicBird have made fresh IP investments (and in some cases multiple plays) thus far.

Throw in well-founded expectations of even more deals – plus several recently signed-and-sealed sale agreements that have yet to receive public announcements – and it seems safe to say 2026 is shaping up to be another big year for catalog.
