Supertri Toronto 2025 men’s results: Stunning triathlon return from Olympic champ Alex Yee

Alex Yee made a sensational return to triathlon as he bossed the opening Supertri League race of 2025 in Toronto.

The Olympic champion has taken time out of the sport to focus on a debut marathon in London where he clocked an impressive 2:11 to finish 14th in the elite men’s race.

But returning to swim, bike and run at the other end of the distance spectrum he showed he’d lost none of his speed as he ran away with the win.

Here’s how it all played out…

Stage 1 – Dey leads the way

Following on from the statement Brownlee Racing start in the women’s race, Marcus Dey continued the good work for the men.

He and Chase McQueen (Stars & Stripes) are two of the best swimmers around and the latter had the advantage of the inside line.

But Dey was brilliant, bossing the exit to take the first short chute.

His teammates Jonny Bownlee and Yee were 11th and 15th of the 16 at this point, but both within 11 seconds.

The bike saw Crown Racing fight back in the shape of Vasco Vilaça. He was first into transition but the big news was that in 16th Brownlee was in danger of elimination.

The run then for Jonny had become crucial even at this stage but up front Csongor Lehmann was at the head of affairs and would come over the line first, just ahead of Yee. Vilaça was third.

But it was bad news for Brownlee and his team as both he and Dey were eliminated. “I think I made every mistake in the book today,” Jonny told Supertri’s Adam Leitch on the live broadcast, saying time lost putting shoes on in transition were the difference.

Eliminated: Jonny Brownlee and Marcus Dey

Stage 2 – Yee moves into contention

So half a team for Brownlee Racing just a third of the way through – and no Dey on the swim.

It was Podium Racing’s John Reed who was out of the water first but just 10 seconds separated the remaining 14.

It remained close on the bike but heading out of T2 it was Yee who raced out first in an impressive return to the sport. Vilaça was just behind and Lehmann in third.

Onto the run and that was how it stayed – apart from the fact that Yee and Vilaça surged clear.

And the short chutes were also determined – Yee for Brownlee Racing and Lehmann for Stars & Stripes.

Going into the final stage and Yee and Vilaça were looking good.

Eliminated: Chase McQueen and Reese Vannerson

Stage 3 – All about Yee

Starting the crucial pursuit-style final stage it was Yee who was going first, but it was close in behind.

Vilaça was next at +2s, with Lehmann just a further second behind.

The swim saw things close up – just four seconds between the first six – but Yee and Vilaça still looked the overwhelming favourites.

The bike stayed similarly tight as it did going into T2 – but once the run got going there was only one winner.

It was super impressive from Yee on his first triathlon back – the short chute was a bonus but in truth it made no difference.

Yee flew after it was taken (Lehmann was alongside him at that point).

He crossed the line a very comfortable four seconds ahead of Lehmann, with Vilaça, who has been right in the mix at the sharp end of WTCS events thhis year, in third.
