Sweden appoints Jenny Örnberg to Spelinspektionen board

The Swedish Government has appointed Senior Lecturer Jenny Cisneros Örnberg to the Board of the Swedish Gambling Authority, Spelinspektionen.

Her addition underscores the government’s commitment to strengthening leadership and governance within the regulatory body overseeing Sweden’s gambling sector.

Cisneros Örnberg will officially begin her term on 21 April 2025, serving through 31 March 2027. Her academic and professional background is expected to offer valuable perspectives to the Authority’s regulatory efforts. The Board will continue to be led by Chair Claes Norgren, with Fredrik Holmberg, Madelaine Tunudd, and Therese Mattsson retaining their positions.

Spelinspektionen regulates Sweden’s gambling industry, ensuring responsible gaming, fair practices, and consumer protection. The appointment comes as the sector faces ongoing challenges related to evolving regulations and rapid technological change.

Jenny’s appointment follows the Government’s recent response to the Swedish National Audit Office regarding the effectiveness of Spelinspektionen’s regulatory oversight. It also coincides with new efforts to tighten online gambling laws, as the government addresses concerns raised in a recent report on unlicensed gambling activity
