At the Met Gala 2025, menswear, suiting, and exceptional tailoring took center stage as guests offered their best interpretations of the evening’s theme, Tailored for You, at the annual fundraiser for The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute.
The Costume Institute’s spring exhibition (which opens May 10 and runs through October 26) is “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” an exploration of the importance of the sartorial in the formation of Black identities. The exhibit tells the story of Black dandyism through a collection of garments, accessories, paintings, photographs, decorative art, and more from the 18th century to the present day. Inspired by “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” and its focus on menswear and suiting, the Met Gala 2025 theme, or dress code, is Tailored for You, which, according to The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute, is “purposefully designed to both provide guidance and invite creative interpretation.”
And every single guest at the Met Gala 2025 took that directive to heart. With fashion’s most talented designers outfitting the biggest names in art, culture, fashion, film, theater, music, sports, technology, and more, creative ingenuity could be found in the smallest detail, from bespoke millinery down to delicate stitching and standout seams.
Below, our picks for whose take on the Tailored for You theme rose above the rest.
