Highlights
- Our top pick is none other than the original hybrid pan, the HexClad skillet. Even after two years of use, the nonstick properties are just as effective as they were on day one.
- For folks on a budget, the Beautiful by Drew Barrymore hybrid pan offers comparable performance at a fraction of the price of others.
- Snag the Zwilling Peak hybrid frying pan if you’re seeking a hybrid pan with a perfectly fitted lid and impressive nonstick performance.
Stainless steel, nonstick, ceramic, cast iron—these days, you can find dozens of different materials by simply walking down the cookware aisle. But the best hybrid cookware is something entirely different. Instead of settling for a single material, this type combines the best traits of all these options into a single pan.
According to cookware expert Alycia Johnson, Vice President of Merchandising at Sur La Table, this Frankenstein-ed result is the main reason hybrid cookware is so popular. She likens hybrid cookware to a cronut, in that it combines two things to create something even better.
“Hybrid cookware combines the benefits of multiple cookware materials and technologies in a single pan,” says Alycia. “It most often combines the durability and cooking performance of stainless steel with the convenience of a nonstick cooking surface. The result is cookware designed to offer the versatility of stainless steel while making everyday cooking and cleanup easier.”
While hybrid cookware is relatively new to the cookware scene, its usefulness is undeniable. From Gordon Ramsey’s recommendations to budget-friendly finds, our team at Taste of Home just had to see which options make up the best hybrid cookware. After trying eight popular brands, here’s what we found.
Pros:
- Truly nonstick
- Heats evenly
- Oven and dishwasher safe
- Replaces three popular pans
- Safe for use with metal utensils
- Induction compatible
- Lifetime warranty
Cons:
- Pricey
- Some users may find it a bit heavy
As the original hybrid cookware brand, it’s no surprise that our pick for the overall best hybrid pan is none other than HexClad. This Gordon Ramsay-backed cookware claims to combine the best parts of stainless steel, cast iron and nonstick pans all in one. And, according to testing data from three different editors, it delivers on this promise—and has been for years.
While we love the orignal HexClad pan, that’s not all the brand has to offer. In fact, Deputy Editor Katie Bandurski has spent the past two years reviewing HexClad gear ranging from pans to pots to knives. “I first tried the Dutch oven and was instantly hooked,” she explains. “Then I ordered a three-piece skillet set, which is now my go-to cookware. I love that I can pull out my stainless steel turner and not have to worry about nicking the coating like I do with ceramic.”

While pricey, we find that it’s worth the splurge—especially with HexClad’s generous lifetime warranty. It’s also the most heat-resistant option we’ve tried with a temperature rating of up to 900ºF. HexClad pans heat evenly, remain nonstick through years of use and can perform almost any cooking task you throw at them.
In our full HexClad cookware review, Katie details her experience using the pans over the course of several years. As of June 2026, she notes that most of her skillets have held up like a dream, with only the small one developing a noticeable scratch in the coating.
“They still perform beautifully for nonstick searing and high-heat cooking. Maintenance has been pretty simple, too. Occasionally, I need to scrub off some burnt-on marks with coarse salt, but it lifts away very easily,” she raves. “I’m still so pleased with this purchase and the pans’ longevity. I tell all my friends/family who are getting married to add HexClad to their registry!”
Size(s) Available: 7, 8, 10, 12 and 14 inches| Lid Included: No | Oven Safe: Up to 900ºF | Metal Utensil-Friendly: Yes | Features: Aluminum core, diamond dust-infused nonstick coating, patented
Pros:
- Polished stainless exterior
- Made from 3-ply stainless steel
- Aluminum core for even heating
- Oven & broiler safe up to 850°F
- Rivetless interior
- PFAS-free ceramic nonstick coating
Cons:
- Hand washing recommended
GreenPan is one of our favorite kitchenware brands. Over the years, we’ve tried several top sellers from the brand’s myriad cookware and appliance categories. While some of our favorite picks include a handsome ice cream maker and a hosting-friendly raclette grill, GreenPan’s Spectra hybrid cookware line might just be our favorite of all the brand’s offerings.

In our full review, we cover the ins and outs of these hybrid pans. Much like HexClad kitchenware, they are resistant to high heat and come with a slick, PFAS-free nonstick coating. The rivetless interior is also a huge bonus, as it prevents gunky buildup. Where these pans really shine in comparison to the rest, though, is their luxe look. The polished stainless steel exterior and raised star-shaped pattern looks ultra-professional.
“So far, I’ve been impressed with how quickly the pans heat up and how effortlessly food slides off,” says tester Nicole Doster. “Cleanup is quick and easy, too. Plus, the stainless steel finish looks luxe on my stovetop.”
While we haven’t yet put GreenPan’s Spectra line through the same paces as HexClad, we’ve tested the brand’s ceramic cookware extensively at Taste of Home. In fact, after testing over 17 brands, we rated the GreenPan Valencia pan as our top pick for the best ceramic cookware. So far, we’re just as impressed with this set, especially given that it uses the same Thermolon 9G nonstick technology as GreenPan’s ceramic cookware.
Size(s) Available: 8 and 10 inch | Lid Included: No | Oven Safe: Up to 850ºF | Metal Utensil-Friendly: Yes | Features: Thermolon 9G nonstick ceramic technology, 3-ply stainless steel, aluminum core
Pros:
- Nonstick surface
- Budget-friendly mid price point
- Compatible with metal utensils
- Dishwasher-safe
- Heats evenly
- Oven-safe up to 850ºF
Made with non-toxic ceramic covered by a stainless steel grid, the OXO hybrid frying pan is ideal for searing, braising and sauteing. While HexClad is still our top pick for longevity seeing as we have yet to test this version longterm, the early results indicate a similarly impressive performance.
Like similar options, it features a hybrid construction with a nonstick surface and a stainless steel grid pattern. The exterior is composed of a solid stainless steel layer, which helps the pan heat evenly. While OXO uses non-toxic ceramic as its nonstick layer, this particular coating is diamond-infused and safe for use with metal utensils.

In our review, I detail its performance as I work my way through a breakfast plate. My egg cooked quickly and efficiently, even getting a layer of crispy lacy goodness on the edges. Flipping it was surprisingly simple, too. A quick turn with my nylon spatula was all it took to release the egg. There was nary a speck of egg white stuck anywhere. It also produced some of the crispiest hash browns I’ve ever enjoyed!
While it’s still a bit pricey, it’s also nearly half the price of our top pick, making it a solid mid-price option for folks who want to try out their first hybrid pan. Plus, unlike our budget option, this one is oven-safe up to 850ºF!
Size(s) Available: 8, 10 and 12 inch | Lid Included: No | Oven Safe: Up to 850ºF | Metal Utensil-Friendly: Yes | Features: Pouring rim, aluminum core, dishwasher safe
Pros:
- Well-constructed – feels sturdy and durable
- Includes a lid
- Affordable
- Heats quickly and cooks evenly
- Can be used with all utensils including metal
- Easy to clean
Cons:
- Doesn’t come in colors like most Drew items
- No larger sizes available
- Not as heat-resistant as others
Folks on the hunt of a budget hybrid pan should look no further than Walmart. The Beautiful by Drew Barrymore hybrid pan offers comparable performance to the pricier pans on this list, but at less than $30. For those wanting to try out their first hybrid pan, that’s a total steal. Plus, it comes with a lid!
“I was surprised by how well this pan worked given its low price point,” says tester Marisa Hillman. “If I were to stock a rental home, I’d buy a set of Beautiful by Drew cookware. It’s incredibly affordable and I’m really impressed by the quality. It heats up quickly, cooks evenly and is very easy to clean.”

While we were overall impressed by this inexpensive pan’s performance, it’s worth noting that it offers the lowest heat resistance of all the options we tested. While most of the combo clad pans we tried were oven-safe up to at least 850ºF, this one can’t handle more than 500ºF (or 350ºF if you’re using the lid).
Additionally, this is one of the smaller options we tested at only 10 inches. Unfortunately, the brand has yet to release any additional sizes, though we’re hoping that changes. That said, for the price point, we’re willing to overlook these marks against it thanks to its overall performance.
“When I cook, I’m generally cooking for six people in a much larger pan,” says Marisa. “This was perfect for eggs and pancakes for one. If I was just cooking for myself or myself plus one, I’d definitely break it out on a regular basis!”
Size(s) Available: 10 inch | Lid Included: Yes | Oven Safe: Up to 500ºF (or 350ºF for the lid) | Metal Utensil-Friendly: Yes | Features: Gold accents, dishwasher-safe
Pros:
- Sold as a pair
- Attractive modern design
- Works with induction cooktops
- Cooks food quickly and evenly
- A little less heavy than others we tested
- Dishwasher-safe
Cons:
- Food can get stuck between the stainless ridges
- Not as heat-resistant as some others
Hunting down a new set of pans, but don’t want to fuss with stainless steel or nonstick? This pair of Circulon hybrid pans offers the best of both worlds: a solid sear and easy cleanup, no sticking or questionable coatings required!
“As someone who struggles cooking on stainless steel, this hybrid pan is a great way to get the best of both worlds: tough and long-lasting like stainless but easy to cook on like nonstick,” says tester Amanda Oliver. While we wish this pair of pans offered a higher temperature resistance—they’re only oven-friendly up to 500ºF—we still found the performance impressive at such a low price point.

Amanda also notes that this might be her new favorite set of pans. Both perform better than the T-Fal nonstick pans she’s used to. So far, everything she has made has cooked evenly and easily with little to no sticking. As someone who wishes she could use stainless but finds it difficult, this pair of pans made a big impression!
“I thoroughly enjoyed cooking with this pan. Even with scrambled eggs—which I usually have issues with egg pieces sticking to pans or uneven browning—the food cooked evenly and quickly,” raves Amanda. “It required little effort on my part to get good results.”
For the price, we’re incredibly happy with the pans’ performance. Plus, you get two for the price of one, making this a good option for a full kitchen upgrade. That said, these pans aren’t available as singles. If you prefer having only one pan on hand, we recommend grabbing one of the other options.
Size(s) Available: 8 and 10.25 inch | Lid Included: No | Oven Safe: Up to 500ºF | Metal Utensil-Friendly: Yes | Features: Circular hybrid pattern, two pans included, brushed stainless steel exterior
Pros:
- Includes a well-fitting glass lid
- Outstanding nonstick performance
- Excellent searing and browning for a coated pan
- Comfortable, nicely balanced welded handle
- Deep sides make it versatile for larger and saucier dishes
- Extremely easy to hand-wash
- Metal-utensil-safe and highly scratch-resistant
Cons:
- Pricey
- Slightly heavy due to a deeper, more substantial construction
- Hand washing recommended, but it is dishwasher safe
While we love that our top budget pick comes with a lid, it also has a few drawbacks that come hand-in-hand with a lower price point. That’s why we advise anyone who wants to grab something comparable—albeit a bit more robust—to snag the Zwilling Peak hybrid frying pan. Not only does this top-tier pick come with a clear lid for added versatility, but it’s also impressively heat-resistant and slick.
“I still love my cast iron, but it’s heavy and takes a little work to maintain that nonstick surface,” says tester and home cook Paul Rankin. “The Zwilling gives me excellent food release right away, without the extra steps.”
While the nonstick properties are the main attraction, the included lid is the true star of the show. It fits securely, and the glass makes it easy to check progress without opening the pan. And, most importantly, the pan performs a lot like stainless steel, without the added stress during cleanup.

“I tried my best to make something stick to this pan, and I couldn’t,” raves Paul. “Fried eggs, steak and chicken all released incredibly easily, yet I was still able to get a great sear.”
The deeper-than-average sides ended up being especially useful. They make the skillet feel almost like a cross between a traditional frying pan and a shallow sauté pan, so it’s useful for more than simply frying eggs or searing meat. Paul comfortably used it for larger, saucier dishes such as pasta and risotto as well.
“The deeper sides were an unexpected bonus. There’s enough room to move beyond eggs and steaks and comfortably cook bulkier dishes like pasta or risotto,“ he says. “Cleanup was almost laughably easy. Even after searing meat, everything basically slid off the cooking surface with a quick wipe.”
Size(s) Available: 8, 9.5, 10, 12 inches | Lid Included: Yes | Oven Safe: Up to 500ºF | Metal Utensil-Friendly: Yes | Features: Deep sides, clear tempered glass lid

What is hybrid cookware?

According to cookware expert Alycia Johnson, Vice President of Merchandising at Sur La Table, hybrid cookware makes up a unique category of cookware in that the materials differ from pan to pan. Typically, hybrid pans combine a nonstick material such as ceramic with stainless steel ridges. This offers many of the benefits of both stainless steel and nonstick cookware in one singular pan.
“Hybrid cookware gets its performance from a combination of materials and surface design,” says Alycia. “Many pans feature a textured cooking surface with raised stainless steel elements and recessed areas containing a nonstick coating. The stainless-steel helps create a durable cooking surface, while the nonstick components help release food more easily.”
She notes that depending on the pan’s construction, additional layers of conductive materials such as aluminum help distribute heat evenly.
“Together, these features allow home cooks to tackle a variety of techniques, from browning proteins and sautéing vegetables to preparing delicate foods that might stick to traditional stainless steel,” she says. “It brings together the best of two worlds so you can sear your proteins to a beautiful golden brown and slide a delicate omelet right onto the plate without a hitch. No compromise required.”
Overall, the biggest benefit of a hybrid pan is versatility. Alycia explains that hybrid cookware bridges the gap between traditional stainless steel and nonstick. It offers a more forgiving cooking surface without sacrificing the ability to achieve a good sear. As a bonus, a single hybrid pan can often handle a wide range of everyday tasks.
“Depending on the construction and coating, durability and easier cleanup can be added advantages,” she says. “For home cooks who want cookware that performs well across daily cooking needs, hybrid cookware can be a smart investment that delivers both searing power and nonstick performance.”
What To Look for When Buying Hybrid Cookware

To find the right cookware for you, Alycia advises that you consider what you cook most often. If you frequently sear meats, look for cookware designed to withstand higher-heat cooking and provide higher heat retention. For folks who cook a lot of eggs, fish, or other delicate foods, the type and quality of the nonstick surface is extra important.
“Shoppers should also consider compatibility with your stovetop, whether it is oven-safe, and what temperatures it can withstand. Understanding how to clean and maintain the pan will help extend its performance and lifespan,” she explains. “Look for hybrid cookware with sturdy construction, high-quality materials and a trusted nonstick coating. A good pan should feel solid but not too heavy, heat evenly and have a comfortable, secure handle.”
Ultimately, the best hybrid cookware should strike a balance. It should offer the durability and performance of stainless steel, plus the ease and convenience of nonstick.
How We Tested the Best Hybrid Pans

Alycia notes that hybrid cookware is a versatile addition to your kitchen rather than a replacement for every pan. Therefore, we chose to focus testing on hybrid cookware’s purported strengths. To do this, we created a testing criteria based closely on our tests for nonstick, ceramic and stainless steel cookware.
Tests centered on several cooking tasks, including browning, searing, deglazing, tossing stir fries and, of course, making eggs. Our testers used the pans over the course of two months in their day-to-day cooking tasks. We also consulted cookware expert Alycia Johnson to get her take on the most important features to look for.
“While [hybrid cookware] offers benefits from both stainless steel and nonstick cookware, understanding its capabilities and limitations is key to getting the most out of it,” says Alycia.
She also notes that the best way to use hybrid pans is to first read your cookware manual. To ensure we gathered accurate data, we treated the pans based on each manufacturer’s included instructions. This is especially important when it comes to heat levels, utensils, and cleaning methods.
Others We Tested
- Analon X: While we enjoyed using this pan enough to write a full review, the elevated price point paired with its tendency to stick takes it off of this list. The etched grooves, despite their shallowness, held onto the mess our tester’s meat left behind. A gentle scrubbing helped some, but she found getting the pan back to pristine condition impossible.
- Cuisinart FusionPlus Skillet: While liked the nonstick performance of this mid-price pan, we didn’t love its low 500ºF heat resistance rating. While the Drew pan offered a similar temperature cutoff, that one also comes with a lid and costs nearly $30 less. That said, we still recommend this pan if you want to opt for Cuisinart!
FAQ

What are hybrid pans?
Hybrid cookware usually combines a nonstick material like ceramic with raised stainless steel ridges. This creates a pan that is durable, nonstick, typically safe for metal utensils and offers amazing searing power.
Are hybrid pans safe?
Unlike other types of cookware, “hybrid cookware” is a term that encompasses several different materials and constructions. cookware expert Alycia Johnson notes that the term “hybrid cookware” covers a lot of different options. When shopping, it’s important to look beyond the term “hybrid.” Instead, pay attention to the specific materials, construction and coating used. This will be different from pan-to-pan.
Do you need to season hybrid pans?
Some hybrid pans will have you lightly season the pan with olive oil or another type of fat. This will depend on the materials used, so be sure to read your product manual prior to use. Some, like HexClad pans, suggest seasoning the pan once when you receive it. You’ll also want to do this anytime you do a deep clean.
Why You Should Trust Us
To date, our team at Taste of Home has tried hundreds of products in the kitchen, home and lifestyle space. Our cookware experience spans everything from new releases to reputable ceramic cookware brands like Caraway, GreenPan, Alva and more. To find the best hybrid pans for every home cook, we tried out nine different options in our own homes. We put them through the paces by searing, steaming and sautéing over the course of several months. After all that testing, only seven of them stood up to our rigorous standards.
