It’ll add an extra dash of spiced magic to the holiday season.

It’s no secret that one of the best things about the holiday season is the baked goods that go along with it. I’d argue that the season itself starts on October 1, and lasts through the end of the year. That’s when pumpkin, pecan, apple, nutmeg, clove, pear, ginger, brown sugar and cinnamon take over my kitchen.

One of my favorite seasonal treats is a basic spice cake, which is super versatile: I can add pumpkin, sweet potato or apple depending on what I have in the kitchen. One non-negotiable, however, is a thick layer of cream cheese frosting. Sorry buttercream, I am fully in the cream cheese camp! And that’s why I got very excited when I learned that Philadelphia is launching a brand-new flavor of its ready-made cream cheese frosting just in time for the holidays.

What is the new Philadelphia cream cheese frosting?

Last year, Philadelphia launched a ready-made cream cheese frosting. Now I’ll admit, cream cheese frosting isn’t the most difficult thing to make. But I often forget to take the cream cheese out of my fridge and let it come to room temperature, which means even more waiting once my spice cake is cool and ready to frost. Enter the convenience of having one already made on hand.

This year, just in time for holiday baking, Philadelphia has upped the ante with its brand new cinnamon cream cheese frosting.

How does the cream cheese frosting taste?

Once I got my hands on the new cinnamon cream cheese frosting, I ate a little bit right out of the container with a spoon. This is crucial when it comes to judging the merit of any ready-made frosting. Sometimes a spoonful of frosting is all you need to satisfy a midnight snack craving (at least in my household). Next, I baked a batch of cinnamon sugar cookies and smeared a generous portion onto each one.

I was pleasantly surprised by just how tangy this frosting was. It hit all the right cream cheese flavor notes, and the cinnamon cut through the mix strongly. I was worried that the cinnamon frosting might be a little too sweet, but that wasn’t the case. I left it out on my counter while the cookies cooled, and it was a perfectly spreadable texture by the time I started frosting.

This is something that I will absolutely keep in my fridge over the holiday season. The convenience and ease of use plus the taste are really going to help me level up my baking game this year.

When is Philadelphia’s cinnamon cream cheese frosting available?

The best news is that you can go buy a container right now. It’s available nationwide, and will be for the duration of the holiday season. And Philadelphia has also hinted that this is just the first seasonal frosting offering of the year; there should be more flavors dropping over the next few months. I wonder what flavor it will roll out next!
