Americans take Easter candy very seriously, and this one knocks all the rest out of the basket.
I love Easter because it combines two of my favorite things: pastel colors and chocolate. As a kid, I even made myself sick one year because I ate an entire bag of Cadbury mini eggs. They’re cute and delicious—what is an eight-year-old supposed to do?!
These days I enjoy my Easter treats in moderation. The best thing about Easter candy is that it appears in stores almost immediately after Valentine’s Day. That means I have plenty of time to indulge. And, as it turns out, there is one specific sweet treat that Americans reach for to fill their Easter baskets more than any others—and it’s kind of a surprising choice!
What is America’s favorite Easter candy?
It’s not my beloved Cadbury mini eggs, nor is it anything egg-shaped or bunny-shaped, if you can believe that. According to survey data collected by DoorDash, Reese’s Pieces is the most popular Easter candy in America.
You know, I don’t even think I considered Reese’s Pieces to be an Easter candy—they’re not even pastel colored! But they do come in a big, carrot-shaped bag with just the orange colors for Easter, so I’ll allow it. I also have another hunch as to why so many people order them: egg hunts. You can fill up a lot of plastic Easter eggs with those tiny peanut butter candies, and you’ll get a lot of bang for your buck doing so.
Surprisingly, the other Reese’s offerings are pretty far down the list of favorites. I mean, the Bunny came in seventh place. The Reese’s novelty holiday shapes are always so popular for Halloween, so it’s kind of bizarre that it’s ranked so low for Easter.
Here are some ether interesting findings from that DoorDash survey:
- The most popular Peeps color is … yellow. (Unsurprising, but still nice to know.)
- New Mexico is the only state that truly loves the Lindt Dark Chocolate Gold Bunny. (I think I’m going to move to New Mexico.)
- Iowa loves Dr Pepper-flavored Peeps. (Fascinating since Dr Pepper was invented in Waco, Texas … so what’s the Iowa connection?)
