TIFF Congratulates 2026 Oscar Nominees

The Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF) is proud to congratulate Official Selections nominated for the 98th Academy Awards. Following the 50th edition of the Festival, 17 films from TIFF 25 and one film from TIFF 24 have been recognized by the Academy, totalling 50 nominations across major categories.

TIFFs Peoples Choice Award is regarded as a bellwether for the Awards, with past winners such as The Kings Speech, 12 Years a Slave, La La Land, Nomadland, and American Fiction going on to major Academy Award recognition. This year continues the tradition: Chlo Zhaos Hamnet, winner of the 2025 Peoples Choice Award presented by Rogers, secured eight nominations, including Best Picture, Best Director, and a Best Actress nomination for TIFF 17 Rising Star Jessie Buckley. Its Zhaos second time on the Peoples Choice Award list following TIFF 20 feature and Best Picture winner Nomadland. Guillermo del Toros Frankenstein, the Peoples Choice Award runner‑up, received nine Oscar nominations, as well as Joachim Triers Sentimental Value, a runner‑up for the International Peoples Choice Award.

Two films from TIFFs Canadas Top Ten showcase are among this years Oscar nominees: The Girl Who Cried Pearls (TIFF 25), from Chris Lavis and Maciek Szczerbowski, for Best Animated Short Film; and perfectly a strangeness (TIFF 24) from Alison McAlpine, for Best Documentary Short Film.
