In Brief: UMusic Hospitality & Lifestyle and UMH Development, LLC announced plans to convert Kansas City’s Scarritt Building into UMusic Hotel Kansas City, with construction planned to begin in the fourth quarter of 2026.
UMusic Hotel Kansas City is planned for the Scarritt Building in downtown Kansas City’s historic core. Constructed more than 117 years ago, the building will undergo an adaptive reuse intended to preserve its architectural character.
Upon completion, the development is planned to include approximately 169 guest rooms and a connected 309-unit branded residential tower. Plans also call for a music and entertainment venue, professional recording studio and UMusic Shop retail store.
The development is planned to include multiple food-and-beverage concepts, including a year-round rooftop restaurant, lounge and pool, as well as a spa and fitness center.
The Scarritt Building is located three blocks from the Power & Light District and within a 10-minute walk of the T-Mobile Center.
UMH Development, LLC and BR Companies of Kansas City and Los Angeles are developing the project. BR Companies is a development partner of UMH Development, LLC.
Programming at the hotel will draw from Kansas City’s music history, including the city’s contributions to jazz. The project involves partners at the City of Kansas City, the Economic Development Corporation and PortKC.
