You Seem Pretty Busy for a Girl About to Release Christmas Music

Taking notes from Mariah Carey, the queen of Christmas, Olivia Rodrigo is wasting no time after Halloween to ring in the holiday season. Today, the 23-year-old singer announced her first-ever Christmas song, “take me home (4 christmas),” out this Thursday. She also teased the accompanying music video with a short clip featuring Sex and the City star Cynthia Nixon and Saturday Night Live’s Ben Marshall, who are joining in on a game of headbands in front of a fireplace. All of the participants are assigned “Olivia Rodrigo.”

The new song will put a bow on top of a jam-packed year for Rodrigo, who is currently on tour for her third studio album, You Seem Pretty Sad for a Girl So in Love, which broke records by making her the first artist to have every song from their first three albums hit Billboard’s “Top 40.” In August, she hosted her first Daisy Chain Fields Festival, which offered an all-female lineup and donated all net proceeds to various women-focused charities and has already been confirmed for another year. Just last month, the star also collaborated with Chappell Roan to remix her song “Expectations.”

In recent years, Sabrina Carpenter has dominated contemporary Christmas pop between her 2023 EP fruitcake and 2024 Netflix holiday variety special, A Nonsense Christmas With Sabrina Carpenter. With the release of Rodrigo’s new song, Carpenter will finally have a worthy competitor. For years, there’s been speculation of a rivalry between the two Disney Channel alums turned pop stars, but in June, Rodrigo told Dazed that she’d be open to collaborating with Carpenter. Is it possible that we’ll finally get the greatest gift of all: a Sablivia Christmas?
